The sole album from 2005 by this Belgian Brutal Death Metal/ Grindcore band formed in 1998. Despite its relatively short lifespan, HEADMEAT managed to leave behind a noteworthy example of European underground extremity. With "Mass Sociogenic Illness", the band expanded upon the ideas introduced on releases such as the "Destructive Entitlement" EP, delivering a more focused and cohesive sound while retaining the aggression that defined its earlier material.
Within the band's brief discography, this release stands as the definitive statement of its musical identity, combining the heaviness of Brutal Death Metal with Grindcore elements and a strong influence from the darker and more oppressive side of Death Metal. Released shortly before the band's demise, "Mass Sociogenic Illness" ultimately became HEADMEAT's only full-length album and the most complete document of a group whose potential remained largely unrealized despite the strengths displayed throughout this recording.
