With "Theatre of Pain", MÖTLEY CRÜE began moving towards a more melodic and accessible sound compared to the aggression of its earlier releases, while fully retaining the rebellious attitude that had made the band one of the leading acts of the Los Angeles scene. Released after the massive success of "Shout at the Devil", the album further established the group's international popularity.
