Debut album from 1984 by New York Thrash Metal legends ANTHRAX and one of the foundation stones of American Thrash Metal. Released during the explosive growth of the underground Metal scene, "Fistful of Metal" was the band's only studio album featuring vocalist Neil Turbin, capturing a group still developing its identity but already displaying much of the speed, aggression and raw energy that would eventually establish ANTHRAX as one of the legendary "Big Four" of Thrash Metal.
Within the band's catalog, this debut holds tremendous historical importance as it documents the rawest, wildest and most Speed Metal-oriented phase of ANTHRAX's career. Driven by the riffing of Scott Ian and featuring virtuoso bassist Dan Lilker, later founder of NUCLEAR ASSAULT, the band crafted a sound heavily inspired by the NWOBHM, particularly acts such as MOTÖRHEAD, RAVEN and JUDAS PRIEST, while pushing the intensity and velocity even further. Although the later albums featuring Joey Belladonna would achieve greater commercial and artistic recognition, "Fistful of Metal" remains an essential release for understanding both the origins of American Thrash Metal and the early evolution of ANTHRAX.
