PAGAN ALTAR

Although recorded in 1982, Judgement of the Dead was not officially released until 1998, becoming the debut album by British PAGAN ALTAR. Widely regarded as a cult classic of Doom Metal, it features material written between the late 1970s and early 1980s, anticipating many of the elements that would later define the genre.

The album's greatest strength lies in its masterful blend of classic Heavy Metal, Doom Metal and occult atmospheres, enhanced by Terry Jones' distinctive vocals and Alan Jones' inspired guitar work. Rather than relying on sheer heaviness, PAGAN ALTAR crafted a deeply melodic, dark and evocative sound that would become highly influential for countless Doom Metal bands in the years that followed.
