Debut album from 1993 by Switzerland's MISERY and one of the most overlooked gems of the first generation of European Doom/ Death Metal. Formed by musicians connected to the Swiss extreme Metal scene, including the former drummer of SAMAEL, the band developed a dark and melancholic style that blended Doom's heaviness with Death Metal aggression in a particularly atmospheric way.
"Mystic" delivers a gloomy and emotional form of Doom/ Death Metal built around dense riffing, predominantly slow tempos and an atmosphere steeped in mysticism and darkness. Without reaching the extreme slowness of some of its contemporaries, the album achieves a highly effective balance between heaviness, melody and aggression, further enhanced by songwriting contributions from Xytras (SAMAEL) on several tracks. More than three decades after its release, it remains a cult favorite among devotees of old-school European Doom/ Death Metal.
