Recorded after the departure of MANTAS and featuring a revamped lineup built around CRONOS and ABADDON, "Calm Before the Storm" sees VENOM moving away from part of the raw chaos that helped shape early Speed Metal, Thrash Metal and Black Metal, embracing a more melodic, accessible and polished direction.
While retaining much of the band's trademark intensity, the album benefits from a cleaner production, stronger melodic content and a more refined guitar approach than their classic early releases. Although it divided fans upon release, it has gradually earned recognition as an interesting and courageous step in VENOM's evolution, revealing a different side of one of the most influential names in Extreme Metal history.
