HIPOXIA

2nd album from 2016 by this Madrid-based band formed in 2009, one of the most distinctive and unsettling acts to emerge from the Spanish Sludge and Death/ Doom scene in recent years. "Si Devs Esset Occidendvs Erit - Monvmentvm ab Khaos I -" represents the first chapter of an ambitious conceptual work, expanding the band's apocalyptic and nihilistic vision through three massive compositions spanning more than 45 minutes. It was originally released in 2016 and follows the band's self-titled debut album from 2012.

HIPOXIA's music inhabits the bleak intersection of Sludge, Death/ Doom, Drone and Noise, creating an experience that is crushingly heavy, slow-moving and deeply oppressive. Dragging riffs, abrasive textures and a pervasive sense of desolation define an album that demands patience while rewarding attentive listening. Rather than functioning as a collection of individual songs, the record unfolds as a continuous descent into landscapes of ruin, despair and emotional collapse, further establishing HIPOXIA as one of the most unique names in the Spanish extreme underground.
