4th album from 2014 by this veteran band from Maine, USA, a cult name within traditional Doom Metal that has spent decades carrying the torch of classic 1970s Heavy Rock and Doom. Following several years of inactivity, OGRE returned with "The Last Neanderthal", a release that fully embraces the band's love of classic riffs, fantasy and science-fiction themes, and old-school Heavy Metal values. According to Metal Archives, it is the band's 4th full-length studio album, following "Dawn of the Proto-Man" (2003), "Seven Hells" (2006) and "Plague of the Planet" (2008).
The album blends the solemn weight of classic Doom Metal with strong 1970s Hard Rock influences, resulting in memorable songs filled with character, melody and a deep appreciation for fantasy-inspired storytelling. Rather than feeling like a mere exercise in nostalgia, the band's approach sounds vibrant and authentic, recalling the spirit of acts such as PENTAGRAM and THE OBSESSED. "The Last Neanderthal" also marked a successful comeback after the band's reunion and remains one of the strongest releases in its catalog.
