- New
Debut album from 1979 by this legendary British Heavy Metal band and one of the key names of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. Originally released under the title "Saxon", this first effort showcased a band still heavily influenced by seventies Hard Rock while already incorporating many of the characteristics that would define its sound in the years to come. Led by Biff Byford, SAXON began here one of the longest and most successful careers in Heavy Metal history.
One of the album's most interesting qualities is that it captures the exact transition from classic British Hard Rock to the traditional Heavy Metal style that would dominate the eighties. The songs display a strong combination of power, melody and working-class attitude that would later become hallmarks of the band. Although often overshadowed by its more famous successors, this debut remains an essential document for understanding both the origins of SAXON and the early development of the NWOBHM.
