EDGE OF SANITY

Debut album from 1991 by Swedish Death Metal pioneers EDGE OF SANITY and one of the earliest examples of the sound that would eventually make the band one of the most innovative acts in European Death Metal. Released shortly after the legendary "Kur-Nu-Gi-A" demo, "Nothing But Death Remains" introduced a young band led by Dan Swanö that, while firmly rooted in the brutal Death Metal traditions of the era, was already displaying a distinctive identity and remarkable songwriting potential. The album was recorded at the legendary Sunlight Studios under the supervision of Tomas Skogsberg, one of the key architects of the classic early Swedish Death Metal sound.

Within the EDGE OF SANITY catalog, this release represents the band's most direct, dark and aggressive period, before the progressive and melodic elements of later albums became more prominent. Even so, traces of the group's future individuality can already be heard in the song structures and atmospheric touches that set them apart from many of their contemporaries. Rawer and more visceral than later masterpieces such as "Unorthodox", "The Spectral Sorrows" and "Crimson", "Nothing But Death Remains" remains an essential piece for understanding the origins of one of the most influential bands in Swedish Death Metal history.
