CD edition of this legendary unofficial live album, originally released in 1995 and widely regarded as one of the most infamous and controversial bootlegs in Black Metal history. "The Dawn of the Black Hearts" features 8 live tracks recorded in Sarpsborg, Norway, on February 28th, 1990 with Dead on vocals, plus 4 bonus live tracks from 1986 featuring Messiah on vocals and Manheim on drums, documenting the band's earliest years.

Beyond the notoriety of its infamous cover artwork, this release holds tremendous historical importance as it captures MAYHEM during a pivotal period in the birth of the Norwegian second wave of Black Metal. The main live set documents the band's transition from the raw violence of "Deathcrush" toward the darker and more developed style later heard on "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", while the 1986 recordings offer a glimpse into an even more primitive incarnation rooted in the extreme Metal underground of the mid-1980s. An essential document for understanding the early evolution of both MAYHEM and Scandinavian Black Metal as a whole.
