7th and final studio album from 1998 by the legendary American Death Metal pioneers. Released three years after "Symbolic", "The Sound of Perseverance" represents the culmination of the musical evolution Chuck Schuldiner had pursued since the early 1990s, pushing DEATH's sound to its most technical, progressive and sophisticated form. Although it was the final release under the DEATH name, many of the ideas explored throughout the album clearly foreshadowed the direction Schuldiner intended to pursue with CONTROL DENIED.

Within the band's catalog, this record stands as the furthest point from the primitive Death Metal of "Scream Bloody Gore", featuring extraordinary compositional complexity, highly developed arrangements and outstanding musicianship throughout. The lineup, featuring Richard Christy, Scott Clendenin and Shannon Hamm, played a crucial role in shaping a work that balances virtuosity, aggression and melodic sophistication in remarkable fashion.
