Debut EP from 1987 by this legendary Norwegian band and one of the cornerstones upon which modern Black Metal was built. With "Deathcrush", MAYHEM introduced a sound that was remarkably extreme for its time, combining the aggression of Thrash Metal, the darkness of bands such as CELTIC FROST and HELLHAMMER, and a nihilistic attitude that would later become one of the defining characteristics of the Norwegian scene of the 1990s.
Rather than representing the final form of the sound the band would later develop on "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas", this EP captures MAYHEM during a transitional period in which the group was beginning to forge its own identity within Extreme Metal. Its influence on subsequent generations of musicians has been immense, and many of the elements that would define the second wave of Black Metal can already be heard throughout these recordings. An essential release both for its musical quality and for its enormous historical significance within the genre.
